Euro 2012

The draw for the groups of Euro 2012 will be held this coming Friday December 2nd and I've noticed one or two interesting things.

Firstly, I know the finals will be in Poland and The Ukraine but having those two teams seeded makes a bit of a mockery of the actual seeding system (Ukraine are 55th and Poland 66th in the latest FIFA rankings). In saying that, it does open up the prospect of seeing a group with say, Spain - Germany - Portugal - France, which would be a pretty tough group to qualify from but would throw up some sweet matches. Alternatively, we could see a soggy pile of used nappies in the form of Poland - England - Greece - Ireland and that wouldn't be nice for anyone.

Here are the seedings and a nice little map of where the games will be played:

Pot 1: Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine.
Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia.
Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden.
Pot 4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland
