Inverting the Pyramid (1st half)

.....Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson. I'm only 150 or so pages in so far but it's a pretty in-depth account of the history of football tactics (as the sub-heading suggests), although very recently in the Guardian column, The Question, Wilson himself draws doubt on the veracity of claims that the ex-Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman actually invented the W-M system. Read about it here.

Stand out passages thus far include the stories of Matthias Sindelar, Bela Guttmann, Nandor Hidegkuti and Garrincha. This book is full of very astute punditry from 'the brain in a jar' (as he's known on the Guardian Football Weekly podcast) and I can't help but wonder what Wilson could have done in the fields of politics, medical research, world history, etc. I'm just glad he chose football;)
